Based on the author's own life, 'Bātchan' tells the heartfelt story of a little Japanese-Brazilian girl learning to communicate with her deaf grandmother. The struggle of learning each hand sign brings her closer to understand her grandmother.

Ms. Ester Kawai

Ester Kawai is a Japanese-Brazilian filmmaker based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She has recently finished her postgraduate course on 2D animation and is currently working as a 2D animator at a local studio. Ester considers her family experiences and religious faith as major inspirations for her works.
