This film is based on a true story of a young girl named Sharmin Akhter who stood up against her child marriage arranged by her own mother and ultimately succeeded to stop it through a long struggle and became an icon in the society. Certainly, her heroic and victorious example will encourage other girls to decide their own destiny while showing their parents a way to be supportive of their decision rather than regarding them as an economic burden.

চলচ্চিত্রটি একটি সত্য কাহিনী অবলম্বনে নির্মিত। শারমিন আক্তার নামের এক মেয়ে তার নিজের বাল্যবিবাহের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়ায়। এই বিবাহের আয়োজন করেছিল তার নিজের মা। সে শেষ পর্যন্ত সেই বিয়ে ঠেকাতে সফল হয়েছিল এবং তা সমাজের জন্য একটি উদাহরণ হিসেবে রেখে যায়। তার এই দৃষ্টান্ত সকল মেয়েকে নিজের অধিকারের জন্য লড়ে যেতে সাহসী করে তুলে।

Ms. Novera Hasan Nikkon is a student of the Fine Arts Department of Jagannath University, Dhaka. “The Girls are not Brides” is her first jointly directed international film. She did the whole research, scripting and production planning of this film. Ms. Nikkon so far visited India, Nepal, Malaysia, and Japan.
