The film deals with the insecurity of a lower class and powerless rickshaw puller who is father to a deaf yet lovely girl child. The father, Jamal constantly fears for his daughter who's innocent and moves freely in vulnerable and criminal oriented rural feudal society, where kidnappings and suspicious vanishing of children is an expected occurrence. Often she is lost . She always unable to tell her address and whereabouts whenever she gets lost. As a result, the neighbors, police and shopkeepers who are aware of Tinki and Jamal always end up escorting her to the house and blaming her father for being careless. This adds to Jamal's frustrations and fears for Tinki. He wants Tinki to be safe and become literate. He sent Tinki to an orphanage. Tinki vanishes from the orphanage. Jamal looks everywhere for Tinki. He finally finds her at home. He embraces her and sheds tears of love for her.
