The story reflects the real struggling life of the fishers in the char region of the river Meghna. Most of the fishers spend their entire lives by the river. To run the family, sun or storm, they have to go fishing in the river. Then money or fish is shared in different types of agreements with moneylenders. Except for the moneylender’s share of the fish they get from their tireless work all day, fishers get very few fish to sell. The anglers buy food to fill their stomachs somehow. The thought of good food always remains a dream for them.

মেঘনা নদীর চর অঞ্চলের জেলেদের দৈনন্দিন ভাঙ্গা-গডার তীক্ষ্ণ বাস্তব জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি এই গল্পের মাধ্যমে তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। অধিকাংশ জেলের সারা জীবন অতিবাহিত হয নদীর সাথে। সংসার চালানোর জন্য রোদ কিংবা ঝড়, যেতে হয নদীর বুকে মাছ ধরতে। তারপর মহাজন সাথে বিভিন্ন ধরনের চুক্তিতে ভাগ হয় টাকা কিংবা মাছ। সারাদিনের অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রমে যে মাছ তারা পায় তার মধ্য থেকে মহাজনের ভাগের মাছ বাদ দিলে জেলেদের হাতে খুব কম মাছই বিক্রি করার মতো থাকে। মাছ বিক্রির টাকা খুবই সামান্য হওয়ায় জেলেরা কোনো রকম পেট চালানোর জন্য বাজার করে। ভালো খাবারের স্বপ্ন তাদের কাছে সবসময স্বপ্নই থেকে যায় । তাদের জালে ধরা পড়া মাছের স্বাদ তারা কখনোই পায় না, কারণ মাছ তাদের কাছে এক রকম বিলাসিতাই বলা চলে।
